Rev Sandy Boyce (Deacon) begins at Pilgrim Uniting Church in October, 2009.
Sandy has recently concluded a national role with youth and young adults, particularly with
a focus on faith formation and discipleship, and oversight for key national events in the life
of the Uniting Church related to senior youth and young adults. Sandy had gained experience in
youth and young adults ministry through her work as the youth coordinator in a local congregation,
and later as the Synod Youth Ministry Consultant. During that time, Sandy was commissioned into
the specified ministry of youth worker in the Uniting Church, prior to her ordination into the
ordained ministry of Deacon.
For six years, Sandy worked in another national role in the Uniting Church, coordinating
volunteers in overseas placements with partner churches, short term exposure trips and work
parties, building on the work she had already been doing coordinating the pre-placement training
for the People in Mission. Sandy originally trained as a teacher and taught for almost 20 years in
both primary school and high school. She enjoys the opportunity to teach occasional classes and engage
with students at the Uniting College of Leadership and Theology.
Sandy has had the opportunity to travel within Australia and overseas, including visiting many
volunteers in partner churches in Asia, Africa and the Pacific. She and her husband Geoff, who is
a chaplain at Flinders University, enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and visit new places, and
especially to be able to learn and contribute. They have three adult children,
and delight in their two granddaughters, Marley and Lila.
Sandy loves to cook and welcome people into her home, including many overseas
students, 'couchsurfers' and other visitors. Sandy and Geoff host a regular gathering of young people
from various faith traditions so that they can learn more about each other while sharing a meal together.
Sandy and Geoff have endeavoured to make their home environmentally friendly, with a vegetable garden
and fruit trees occupying their back and front yards of their courtyard home, along with solar panels and
water tanks.
In her spare time, Sandy enjoys movies, music, reading, gardening and spending time with family.
