Your wedding
Celebrating the Gift of Marriage
Our community is broad and accepting. Same-gender couples are as welcome to be married here as are
heterosexual couples, in accordance with the
Uniting Church decision
in July 2018.
We celebrate marriage as an institution in which two people - a woman and a man, or two women or two
men - can live their love and their life-long commitment to each other.
Your marriage service is first and foremost a worship service in which you make a covenant with one another and with God. In the name of Christ, the church blesses your marriage covenant; praying that you may know the joy and freedom of life-long union. We seek God's blessing on all those who marry, so that they may live the vows they make on their wedding day.
You do not have to be a member of the church to be married at Pilgrim Uniting Church. We do ask, however, that you approach the ceremony with reverence, respecting the convictions of both the church and yourself. We invite you to attend any of the worship services which are held on Sunday mornings at 8am, 9.30am or 11am. This will give you the opportunity to experience the worship life of the congregation, and to understand better your marriage as an act of Christian worship.
Initial Enquiries
Your initial enquiry is made to the Administrator, in the Pilgrim Office. The Administrator will
offer assistance regarding possible dates for your wedding. The Minister assigned to preside at
your wedding will be in contact with you to arrange an introductory meeting. When approval has
been given, you will be able to make a deposit to confirm your booking.
Ministers
A minister associated with Pilgrim Church will be assigned to preside at your wedding,
according to the rites of the Uniting Church in Australia. Any requests for participation
by a visiting Uniting Church minister will be at the discretion of the Ministers of Pilgrim
Church, and dealt with on an individual basis. Visiting Ministers will work within the
policies and protocols of Pilgrim Church as set out in the wedding brochure.
We respectfully advise that Ministers from other denominations will not be able to conduct
weddings at Pilgrim, but may be able to participate in an aspect of the wedding service in
negotiation with the assigned Minister.
Couples will need to contact the assigned Minister who marries you a minimum of two months
before the service so that the necessary documentation and planning can be arranged.
